What it's about
A golden fall day that still seems quite ordinary. But it will be the last beautiful day for the Langhoff family. Nobody suspects yet that this is the last time they will hear Sybille's voice. Lars makes a quick phone call to his wife, Maike reacts annoyed to her mother's call and Piet chats away carefree. No one notices that Sybille has long since said goodbye. A short time later, she is dead. A delayed e-mail to Lars announces her suicide. He finally finds her in the woods, where she has taken a lethal dose. Sybille, a 40-year-old anesthesiologist, mother and wife, has taken her own life. While she could no longer go on living with her depression, her family must carry on. But what remains is bewilderment and the plunge into an exceptional emotional situation. Lars tries to cope with everyday life: taking the children to school, organizing the funeral, functioning. However, anger and feelings of guilt make it unbearable to go on living. He torments himself with the question: Should he have recognized the signs? Maike struggles with self-reproach - why was she so dismissive during the last phone call? And Piet is not told the truth about the exact cause of his mother's death until he painfully discovers it. Meanwhile, Lars' sister Ruth stands by the family. She organizes, comforts and supports her brother. When she recites a poem at the funeral, Lars finally breaks down. As a family, they now have to learn to live with the difficult loss - to talk things out, clear up misunderstandings, find their way again. Only one thing is certain: nothing will ever be the same again.
