Interstellar — The Choice to Stay
At the N.A.S.A. base, Cooper listens as the scientists prepare to leave through the wormhole. He studies the mission plans, then looks at the message from home: Murph and Tom are still waiting for him, while the fields are failing beneath the storms. He tells the crew he cannot go. His piloting skills may help them find another world, but he will not make his children face the end of their home without him. The ship departs without Cooper. He returns to the farm and joins Murph and Tom in saving what crops they can, moving supplies out of the path of the next storm and sharing food with neighbors. Their harvest is small, and the sky remains choked with dust. Still, the three of them work side by side, no longer waiting for Cooper to come back. Far beyond Earth, the mission carries on without its most capable pilot; at home, Cooper chooses the only people he can still help directly.
