What it's about
Olympic champion Ondrej Nepela returns home to Czechoslovakia after his 1972 victory in Sapporo, only to confront the suffocating grip of the socialist regime. At just 21, the celebrated figure skater becomes a shining poster boy of state propaganda. Beneath the surface, Ondrej longs for one thing: escape. To vanish into a world where he can live as the person he's only beginning to understand himself to be. But freedom comes at a cost. The Party offers a deal-permission to leave for the West in exchange for one last performance. One more gold. One final proof of loyalty. Will Ondrej be able to stand for his real self?
