What it's about
In a remote village, twelve-year-old Manu, the son of Peruvannan Kuttan and Leela, is selected to perform the perilous 'Thee Chamundi Theyyam ' a ritualistic dance involving leaping into a towering, six foot pyre of burning embers. While the local astrologer declares it a divine calling, and the villagers view the ritual's ceremonial tokens as symbols of immense luck and honor, his parents remain paralyzed by fear for their son's life.Desperate to protect him, Leela secretly equips Manu with fire-resistant gear beneath his traditional attire. However, the sanctity of the ritual demands complete adherence to tradition. Forced to complete the grueling requirement of leaping into the fire one hundred and eight times, the young boy succumbs to fatal heatstroke, his life extinguished by the very flames he was meant to embody.In a powerful act of defiance against the oppressive traditions and the local elites who seek to exploit their son's death by institutionalizing a new annual Bala Chamundi Theyyam, Manu's parents take a radical stand. They reject the cycle of ritualistic exploitation by donating his body to a medical college, effectively stripping the authorities of the remains they intended to deify, and choosing to end the cycle of sacrifice once and for all.
